The Wardle Anderson brass band was formed in the 1990s, consisting of players from the Wardle Academy Youth Band who, at 19, became too old to play in youth band competitions.

The Anderson name originated from a former Headteacher of Wardle Academy (previously Wardle High School), William Anderson, after he died in 1996. William enabled hundreds of children to learn a brass instrument and the band wouldn’t have existed without him.

In 1997 the band received a National Lottery Grant. This enabled them to buy a brand new set of uniforms and instruments, which allowed them to give their old instruments to people in the community that wanted to learn a brass instrument. This formed the Wardle Community Band who perform regularly at concerts and events.

Wardle Anderson proudly presents... INTO THE UNKNOWN from Frozen 2

Featuring vocalist Elly Grice

This special arrangement is by our Musical Director, Bradley Mcculloch. The band recorded the piece in their individual sections at St Andrews Church, Dearnley. Masterly produced by Ryan Broad, the outcome complies a fantastic band accompaniment to the amazing Elly Grice.

** PRESS RELEASE **

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Bradley McCulloch as our new musical director with immediate effect.

Bradley’s musical career began with Porth-Y-Waen silver band, near his home town of Oswestry, Shropshire. Since moving to Manchester for University, Bradley has performed with some of the country’s finest bands including 5 years at The Fairey Band where he is currently principal percussionist.

During his time at the University of Salford, Bradley studied performance and conducting under the direction of Howard Evans, Tom Davoren and Brett Baker. In 2017 he graduated with a 1st class BA Hons in music alongside winning both the Roy Newsome conducting prize and the Iwan Williams performance prize.

Bradley now performs up and down the country as a freelance musician in a variety of ensembles, predominantly function bands, musical theatre productions and brass bands.

Bradley graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a PGCE in secondary music education in 2018. Shortly after, Bradley was appointed the role of music teacher at Wardle Academy which led to his connections with Wardle’s banding heritage.

In response to the appointment, Bradley added “I am extremely excited to be taking over as M.D of the band and look forward to continuing and building on the success that the band have seen over recent years. I’d like to thank the band and Sean Conway for the opportunity and for his support in the transition of this post.”

Brad joins Wardle Anderson as our current musical director Sean Conway will be stepping down from the role after 14 years. Sean comments ‘’I’ve had a brilliant 16-year association with Wardle Anderson Brass, 14 of which as Musical Director. I’ve had time to contemplate and feel now is the right time to pass the reins over to Brad Mcculloch who is an extremely talented musician who I know is a great fit for the ethos at Wardle Anderson. I will keep a close association with the band and look forward to seeing both Brad and the band flourish in the coming years”

From all at Wardle Anderson Brass, we would like to thank Sean for his hard work, commitment and dedication he has given to the band over the last 16 years, and we wish him well for the future.
